Thread: A/C Evaporator leaking - need removal advice

  1. A/C Evaporator leaking - need removal advice

I've got to think that someone here knows the procedure.

My A/C issues have been traced to a small leak somewhere in the evaporator. I've been told that removal is an involved process and I'm hoping to find out here just what that means. Has anyone removed the evaporator unit and if so, what had to be done?

I understand that they are not available any more, so my options are repair of the existing unit or replacement with a bespoke unit (my local A/C shop figures it would be between $600 and $1000.

    So, in short:

    1. What is the removal procedure? What can I expect?
    2. Does anyone know of a replacement unit available?
    3. Any other thoughts for the repair?

Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks, guys...

We've never done one intentionally, but when building a race car, the evaporator is underneath the dash. The windshield was removed prior to removing the dash.
