It has come to our attention over the last few weeks that we've been hacked - some miscreant installed some malicious computer code on our site that was supposed to redirect browsers to a site that would try to download an executable trojan onto your computer, then after the trojan was downloaded, it would send the browser to Noble-Speed, as if nothing was wrong.

We've scanned the computers that we use to access the forum, and it looks like none of them were infected - either the trojan didn't work, or it was caught by our anti-virus programs. However, just to be on the safe side, I'd strongly suggest that all Noble-Speed users run a virus scan on their computer. If you don't have an anti-virus product, Kaspersky, Sophos, or F-Secure are good commercial products. Avast, MSE, Spybot, and Trend Micro House Calls are very good free alternatives to the paid products. If you're more paranoid than average, you might want to use two or more of these virus scanners - sometimes one will find things that another may miss.

While we see no indication that the hackers accessed any information that they shouldn't have, all passwords on the site have been expired, and (as you no doubt will know by now...) everyone will need to make up a new password. It's a good practice to use a different password for low-risk, low security sites, like forums, than the passwords that you use for higher-risk sites like online banking, email, online shopping, etc. If you're like me, overwhelmed by the number of passwords in your life, you might want to look into using a password manager: Peguta and LastPass are good ones to use (online + free) or Robo Form (paid).

We have taken steps to lower the risk of reinfection, but like anything else on the Web, if anyone REALLY wants to attack Noble-Speed, it's possible. All we can do is keep an eye on things, and hope to pick up any problems as soon as we can. On your part, please remember that Noble-Speed is a fairly low security site - don't put any information that you would like to keep private (credit card numbers, bank account info, location where you park your Noble/Rossion, etc.) in anything that stays on the Noble-Speed server, like posts, blogs, or even PM's.

Thanks, and sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused.
