I decided to take the 8 hour drive to and from the auto show yesterday to see first-hand the Saleen S1 and other vehicles. Had a great time as one of my coworkers and test driver came along.

While I was standing in the crowd near the front one of the city councilman was speaking to Saleen's representative. He gave the salesman his business card and I heard the salesman say, "we've got to keep his card, it's important to have this level of contact."

A minute later, the councilman ended up next to me and said, "how the heck can you possibly build a car for 100k. I've been to Saleen a few times and I've never seen this project anywhere in their building.....?!"

Salesman- "we had it behind a curtain."

Me----- I explained to the councilman that this vehicle was a defunct prototype from Germany. That prototype was revamped and badged with Saleen. The vehicle is built overseas and more than likely shipped to Saleen.

The councilman brought me up to the front and said to the salesman- "this guy (me) kinda knows more than the average person and I'd like him to ask you a few questions so I can understand more of this car; something just doesn't make sense."
So.... a crowd drew and I felt like I was being put on the spot and I was very hesitant as I am not an outspoken person.

Me: "Is the engine a four cylinder?"
    Salesman: "yes."
Me: "Is it transaxle or longitudinal engine?"
Salesman: (confused, so I hand gestured which direction was which) "Sideways. We're taking orders now and deposits for next years delivery in Dec."
Me: "How do you register the car?"
    Salesman: "I don't know."

Councilman said to me: "this is all just too interesting and something just doesn't make sense."

I decided to step away from the platform and continue about my day.

Automotive business is so very interesting and all the smoke and mirrors involved; especially at this level. I wish them the best.

This was pretty cool. It's just a model and there was only a representative wearing a mini-skirt the entire time that answered "canned" responses.
I don't see how they could give any indication of performance data when the car doesn't exist nor any past information from other vehicles developed. More than likely just gauging the market.
