I have both a halon system and a hand held. Pennies of protection for pounds of cure!

it really takes a bit of experience to build these cars. This is a one owner car and he did his own work.
We're investigating the fire. So far, it's oil. Most people aren't careful to understand the do's and don'ts during assembly. The owner is an excellent driver and raced against F40s successfully. His next event.....well.......

The owner was a decent wrench too. Piece by piece, we are looking at all the parts etc......
The gear box seems to be from the U.K. and engine isn't AER.

stay tuned, more to come.....

the two oil lines to the sandwich plate split and sprayed oil.
There was only two quarts of oil left in the pan.
The front exhaust downpipe came loose and a small opening.
This probably ignited the oil.

Nope, could see the air intake flex tube wires still in place.

I kept this cup in storage from the original owner.
The new owner is getting the cup as
Well.

So, looks like the a exhaust leak from the front turbo melted the oil lines going to a oil cooler?

Hoover

How come UK dont seem to have that many issue with turbo hardware backing out? the plates that you bend to create a tab blocking the nuts dont work?

Hoover
01-22-13, 04:39 PM
You mean stage 8 hardware?

ludo
01-22-13, 05:18 PM
turbo locking plates, like that:
http://www.speedzonemotorsports.com/product.php?productid=7657

I saw rossion used that for their built.

Hoover

These are all band aids.
The metal flange still expands and will shear the hardware off.

ludo
01-22-13, 05:48 PM
only these can be put in so that you can keep torq on hardware low and leaving more room for flange thermal expansion, no?

Hoover
01-22-13, 06:06 PM
done that already.
doesn't work.
still vibration and weight of the turbo. the bracket doesn't hold the weight like most think it would.

Insurance paying for this fire damage?

wilson1
01-24-13, 01:25 PM
Is this under insurance coverage?
Wondered if the repair cost more than the car's worth

Hoover
01-24-13, 01:35 PM
yes. insurance did cover.

WJS26
01-24-13, 04:47 PM
I wonder if they considered totalling it... they could also just cash out their insured and give him the car back to fix on his own.

Hoover
01-24-13, 05:07 PM
yes, yes, and yes.

Notorious

Optimal if you want to buy back your car at a greatly reduced cost to build into a race car. That's what motorcycle racers do in a lot of cases.
